Confessions of a contest slut

Okay, I never really entered a lot of contests before. Sure I entered my local chapter’s contest. The Original Golden Opportunity Contest is an amazing contest with great feedback. I entered a few others as well over the years. But now that I’ve switched to screenwriting (at least for the time being) I want to enter almost every contest I find. The reason - it seems to be the best way to break in. When it comes to writing books I’d rather spend my money on querying agents or editors. After all they are the ones who can actually do something for you. And if they say no thanks, you send your query to someone else. From what I’ve learned it’s not that simple in Tinseltown. A lot of the agents don’t even accept queries. Only referrals. And most production companies won’t accept anything unless it’s from an agent. I know, it sounds familiar. But when you’re writing novels there are still a number of publishing houses that will accept unsolicted material
even if it’s only a query.

So I find myself wanting to enter as many script writing contests as I can because the winners usually get their stuff in front of an agent or producer. It’s going to mean a lot of writing for me. And no social life. Good thing I’d only booked things into June. The rest of the year is pretty much free.
