I’ve been trying to work on a story I want to submit to an anthology. Mirrors play a big part in it so that had me researching mirror superstitions. Everyone knows the superstition that you get seven years back luck if you break a mirror. But do you know why? The Romans believed that it took seven years for life to renew. To get rid of the bad luck you bury the pieces of the broken mirror.
Do you know other mirror myths and superstitions? There are quite a few of them. For instance all mirrors must be covered in a house where someone died. This is to prevent the soul from getting trapped in the mirror. If a mirror falls off a wall it means someone is going to die. It’s bad luck to see your reflection by candlelight. Of course there’s the old vampires don’t cast a reflection because they have no souls. Apparently it’s also bad luck to receive a mirror as a present.
The superstitions surrounding mirrors could give me ideas for a while.
And milestone time! This is my 200th post!
Off to bed.
Until next time…
Cindy
