H is for…Historicals

It could also be for healthy, which I am not right now. That’s the reason this H post is so late. I just want to go back to bed. :)

I love history. The first romance I read was actually a time travel. After that I started reading historicals. I liked anything that took place in the middle ages or earlier. I loved the ancient settings, though those were rare. Way back when I first started writing I started out writing historicals. My first novel was a Scottish historical set in 1314. For the next two I moved to England and the 1500s. I even helped create and was one of the founding board members of Hearts Through History, RWA’s historical chapter.

I’ve since switched to suspense/thrillers. Haven’t even thought about historicals in years, not even to read one. But at auditions for the boyfriend’s play they had other auditions going on as well. One director is doing a play inspired by Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. Then last night we went to see Twelfth Night at the local theatre. Loved it. And it made me want to dig out some of my historical ideas. I have a time travel that has been tapping me on the shoulder now. I wrote four pages of it years ago and then forgot about it. Not because I didn’t love it. I do love it. But the serial killers in my suspense/thrillers wanted me to write them.

So, I’ve decided that the historicals/time travels are not completely off the table. I will be working on my suspense/thrillers and my urban fantasy but I will make time to work on those historicals again.

Okay, signing off now. Will blog hop tomorrow when I am hopefully feeling better.

Until next time…

Cindy
