So the new crop of summer shows have started. So far I’ve only seen In Plain Sight and Fear Itself. I’m still on the fence about them. But I do like the main character in In Plain Sight. She’s spunky, she has her vulnerable moments but she’s still a tough chick. I’ll keep watching for a while to see how the show evolves. I try not to get too attached to shows these days because networks just don’t give shows a chance anymore. Fear Itself reminds me of The Outer Limits. I did love TOL so we’ll see how Fear Itself does. I have liked the two episodes I’ve seen so far. I’m looking forward to Flashpoint as well. Looks like a decent show.

It’s not a summer show, but I can’t wait for Dollhouse. Joss Whedon is a genius. I’ve waited for a long time for another one of his shows to hit the airwaves.

Are there any other new shows I should be on the lookout for?

Until next time…

My friend Brenda and I went to see a movie Friday night. We were in the mood for a light, cheery movie. So we settled on Made of Honor. Cute movie. Somewhat predictable. But entertaining anyway. Kind of like My Best Friend’s Wedding only in reverse.

We were sitting in the theatre before the movie started. The lights were still up. On the screen they had the usual filler to keep people entertained before a movie starts. Movie trivia. The odd commercial. So my Brenda and I were talking, catching up. We hadn’t seen each other in a while. The guy in front of us told us to be quiet. I told him when the movie started we would be quiet. We kept talking. Then he turned around again and yelled at us to be quiet or get out and talk in the lobby. I again said no, the movie hadn’t started yet. When the movie starts we’ll be quiet. So then he threatened to “bop” me. I’m usually a pretty easy going person but I have to say it’s a good thing Brenda was with me because I would have done something that would have at the very least got me kicked out. When other people came in and started talking he didn’t say anything to them. Although he did give them dirty looks.

After the initial anger subsided (took half the movie) I felt sorry for the woman he was with. And I pitied him. I mean, if he can’t even enjoy a movie without talking to his anger management coach he’s got problems.

Until next time…

On Bravo! we have a television program called Books into Film. Fascinating show. Because there are so many movies out there that I didn’t realize were based on a book or graphic novel. I did an IMDB search with the keywords based on novel and there were over 26,000 hits. Gives me hope that one of my books might get made into a movie.

So, on Sunday night on History Television (at least Canada’s version) they were showing The General’s Daughter. I’d seen it once before and liked it. And we were all too lazy to change the channel after the NCIS marathon so we watched. I liked it the second time too. Good story telling. Fabulous introduction to the General’s daughter when she helped John Travolta’s character change his tire. After seeing it for the first time I actually went out and bought a Nelson DeMille novel. Can’t remember the title. And I haven’t read it yet. I’m going to have to find it and actually read it now. If it wasn’t The General’s Daughter I’ll have to go buy that one too. I’m curious to see how close the movie came to the book.

Until next time…

Yet another remake of a classic. With all these remakes you’d think Hollywood wasn’t getting any new material. Hello! I have some scripts for you. The remake is going to be 3-D according to the IMDB listing. Anyway, I never saw the original. I guess I should before I see the remake. And why will I see the remake? Same reasons I’ll see the Friday the 13th remake, except Jensen Ackles is in this one. I’m a little disappointed they moved the setting from Nova Scotia to Montana but I guess it made more financial sense to film in the U.S. (Pennsylvania) with how strong the Canadian dollar is right now. The plot synopsis is a little thin at the moment. Jensen’s character finds himself being suspected of committing the murders when he returns to his hometown on the 10th anniversary of the massacre. Since it’s still filming I’m sure updated information will be available in the near future.

I do “get” the reason for remakes. Proven franchise reinvented for a new generation. So I will just have to wait and see how it turns out. I know there have been remakes I liked better than the original but for the life of me I can’t remember what they are. Guess even though I liked them I didn’t like them enough.

Until next time…

If you thought after 10 movies (11 if you count Freddy vs Jason) that Jason Voorhees was finally dead, think again. Producer Michael Bay is bringing Jason back to life in a remake of the Friday the 13th movie. Will I see it when it comes out? Yes – for three reasons. I love horror movies, I like to see what they can do with remakes of the classics, and Jared Padalecki is in it. Okay, so he’s not my favourite Winchester brother but he’s getting hotter with each episode. I hope they stop with just remaking the first one. Because let’s face it after the second one, the movies needed to be put out of their misery.

Will it be as good as the original? Who knows. I’m disappointed with a lot of movies they’re calling horror these days. Because, um, where’s the horror? When was the last time a horror movie made you jump? Kept you up at night? And does a horror movie have to be at least rated R to be truly scary? Can you have a horror movie scare the pants off you if it’s only PG-13? My feeling is if a 14 year old can watch it without parental guidance, it’s not scary enough.

I’m off to see if there’s anything I need to set my PVR for before I go to work.

Until next time…

So how about that season finale? I have to admit, I liked it. The description of the episode didn’t sound overly interesting. But it held my interest. I’d read that someone was going to get “severely injured” - understatement, hello it was an explosion - and I wondered how they were going to work it so viewers wouldn’t know who until next season. The writers did a good job. I have to say though that the only person I will be okay with being in the SUV is Rossi. I don’t like him. I didn’t like Gideon, but I like Rossi even less. Of course if the person survives it can be any one of the team. I’d be okay with that. As long as they stayed on the team.

Blogs all over the internet will be speculating all summer. Just what CBS wanted I’m sure. I just hope that the season premier doesn’t disappoint.

Until next time…

Season finale season has started. On time instead of late like I was hoping, to make up for the writer’s strike. Oh, well. Nothing anyone can do about that. In true season finale fashion, shows are cleaning house. If you haven’t seen the final episode of NCIS and don’t want anything spoiled, stop reading now.

Most of the time I really do wish they would come up with a better device for the BIG episode and actually not get rid of characters. This time I’m so happy with the NCIS writers. I was angry when they killed off Kate. It took me a while to warm to Ziva. I never could warm to Jenny. Maybe I’m heartless but I’m glad she’s gone. They needed a new director. I didn’t like it when they brought her in anyway. The only sad part was how Abby took the news.

I had an issue with the new director breaking up the team. Can we say CSI? Of course Gil’s team being split up didn’t last and this one won’t either. If I hadn’t seen it done before it might have been a strong ending. Up until that point it was a good episode.

I guess now that the season finales are happening I’ll have to stick to movies and books until the new season starts.

Until next time…

Okay, so blogs need a theme. At least the good ones do so I’ve been told. So I’ve decided to have a theme. While I will still once in a while talk writing to let you know what’s going on with that, I’ve decided my theme will be - That’s Entertainment. The good, the bad and the ugly.

I’ll be blogging about television, movies, books, the occasional play, perhaps a comic or two. I read very few comics. Buffy Season 8, Angel, and the prequel to Supernatural. Possibly video games, though I don’t get to play a lot since I don’t have a console. I just have the arcade stand up Galaga, Ms. Pacman, Pacman combo.

I have an interview with David Rambo I will be posting after it appears in the Scriptscene newsletter.

Until next time…

Finally new shows are beginning to air now that the writer’s strike is over. I can’t wait to see new episodes of all my favourites (Supernatural especially). Of course, I did stop watching some shows and won’t pick them up again now that new episodes are running. I started watching some of the filler shows they aired and actually liked a few of them. I’m really enjoying New Amsterdam. I like the fact he has a sense of humour and doesn’t brood about being immortal like a certain vampire (Moonlight) does.

Of course I can’t let all this TV watching interfere with my writing. I’ve got tons of work to get done and not a lot of time to do it. But for now, I’m off to watch some of my shows.

Until next time…
